Despite the fact that it was snowing earlier this week, spring is here!
Mother Nature just needs to catch up with the calendar.
Changing seasons bring defined elements for creative inspiration. When the weather warms up and evening light lingers, I start to think about fresh decorating ideas, what I'll grow in my garden this year and the holidays of spring: Easter, Mother's Day and summer's prelude, Memorial Day. On that note . . .
Fresh Decor . . . I've just made new curtains for my kitchen. The window is small and tucked inside the alcove of a sloping wall, limiting my options. I wanted something soft and simple with a touch of spring color. Natural light is abundant in this room, (there's a slider on another wall), so dressing the window inside the frame was okay.
On a recent trip to Maine, I purchased fabric at a lovely quilt shop in the Old Port section of Portland. I chose a fine cotton with a delicate turquoise motif on a white background to match my turquoise cupboard. I used muslin for the lining and reversed tieback buttons from my stash. The cafe panels are mounted on a decorative spring rod. Want to make your own? Here's the TUTORIAL. Happy sewing!
The garden . . . I have a little roof-top deck off my kitchen. It's relatively private and very sunny, almost too much so. "Outdoor space" is a coveted perk I could never afford when living in Manhattan so I consider it quite the luxury. (I'm now about 20 miles north.)
Since this will be my third spring season here, I'm finally going to create a small container garden and BBQ area on the deck. When Mother Nature decides to cooperate, I'll move this pot outside. Yay! Iced cocktails anyone?
And the holidays . . .
Easter is fast approaching. I'd better finish this Montanimal Rabbit and get him in the SHOP with his friends.
He's turquoise! Ha.
Mother's Day Gift Tutorials are in the works.
Hmmm, this little cross-stitched treasure, (sitting in my pile of parts since the 80s and that actually belongs in "Unfinished Projects"), is about to become something. Ideas, anyone?
Last but not least - Memorial Day!
Can't have that backyard BBQ without a little red, white and blue. We're getting a jump-start on decorative accents for this end-of-May weekend. Available for purchase in the SHOP.
I hope you enjoyed this little spring-me-up. I have lots to do!. Best get busy.
